Which Google tool replaces Workspace Migrate?
Two first-party paths remain. The plan names the one that fits your size.
Google Workspace Migrate was the large-tenant tool. Its SharePoint and OneDrive path no longer receives updates and its Exchange Online path is unavailable from October 2026. The replacement is the data import tool in the Admin console. The default method uses Google's shared quota and suits one to a thousand users. The advanced method uses an Azure application you register in your own Entra tenant, runs batches of up to 5,000 users and allows twenty batches per import. Google recommends a separate Azure app for every ten batches.
Both methods copy only users who already exist in both tenants. A Workspace super administrator runs the import and a Microsoft global administrator approves the Azure app consent. We do both steps with you on a call so no standing credential is left behind.
What migrates from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace?
Exchange Online mail, calendar and contacts arrive in Gmail and Google Calendar. Folders become labels. Outlook categories and rules are not carried and are rebuilt as Gmail filters where they still matter. A delta import after the first pass catches mail that arrived during pre-staging.
OneDrive copies to My Drive at up to 500 users per import. SharePoint Online sites map to Shared Drives through a CSV that pairs each site with a destination drive and each Microsoft identity with a Google account. Office files stay in Office format unless you ask for conversion. Excel workbooks with Power Query, macros or dynamic array formulas are flagged for the formula and automation work, because they do not survive conversion to Sheets.
Teams channels import into Google Chat as restricted spaces. Attachments are not imported and GIFs become links. Spaces must be rolled out within 90 days of import or Google deletes them, so the plan books the roll-out date before the import starts. Private chats, meeting recordings and Planner boards have no import path and are exported for retention instead.
Where will the data live after the move?
This is the question an Australian organisation should settle first. Microsoft 365 stores core customer data for Australian tenants in the Australia geography. Google Workspace data regions support the United States and Europe only, so an Australian tenant cannot pin Gmail or Drive data to Australia. For many organisations that is acceptable under APP 8 with the right contract and disclosure. For some, especially those with government or health contracts, it is a blocker. We put the answer in the design document and you decide before any data moves.
Retention and audit logging are also rebuilt, not migrated. Purview retention policies and litigation holds become Google Vault rules. Purview audit logs are retained for 180 days on Standard; the Google Admin console keeps audit events for six months. If your obligations need longer, Vault export or a SIEM feed is set up before cutover.
How do mail routing and sign-in change?
- Google accounts created or provisioned from Entra ID before any import.
- Identity provider chosen in design; SAML tested on a pilot group.
- MFA re-enrolled on Google; Microsoft Authenticator retired at close.
- Google SPF include and DKIM key published before the MX change.
- MX TTL lowered a day ahead; MX switched in a quiet window.
- Delta import after the switch; Microsoft 365 kept live at least 72 hours.
- Printers and apps moved to the Gmail SMTP relay service.
- Devices moved from Intune to Google endpoint management or your MDM.
Rollback is the MX record. While Microsoft 365 is still live, mail returns to Exchange within one TTL. Licences on the Microsoft side are kept until the hypercare week ends, then reduced.
How much does a Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace migration cost?
Pricing is quoted per user after a 20 minute scoping call. Sorami holds no partner tier with Microsoft or Google and takes no reseller margin, so licences are bought on your account at list price.

What happens to SharePoint sites and permissions?
Each SharePoint Online site maps to a Shared Drive through a CSV we prepare from the inventory. Microsoft identities map to Google accounts the same way. Site permission levels become Shared Drive roles, which are coarser, so sensitive sites get a permission review after the copy.
Will Excel workbooks keep working in Sheets?
Plain workbooks do. Power Query, macros, Office Scripts and Excel-only functions such as MAP and SCAN do not convert. We flag those workbooks in the inventory and quote the rewrite separately on the scripts and formulas page.
